WELCOME
St Mary's is the oldest building in
Hinckley, dating back to the thirteenth century. We are part of the Church
of England, the historic church in this country. In our worship we try to
celebrate the kind of church we believe God would have us be: a community
of Christians who try to love and serve God in loving and serving one
another and those in need.
We like to feel that St Mary's is a
church with room for everyone. It is certainly a large building - between
1875 and 1878 it was enlarged to seat 1200 people: the quiet and the
noisy, the clever and the simple, the old and the young, those who are
confident in their faith, and those who struggle with doubt.
Perhaps this is naive. But all that
is needed is plenty of love, which we Christians say we believe in but
which we find so hard to put into practice. One of the purposes of worship
is surely to help us to grow to be more loving people. In Holy Communion
Christ shares himself with us, his Body broken for us, his love poured out
for us, that we may grow to be like him.
So we welcome you. If you would
like one of us to call and see you, fill in a "welcome" leaflet which you
will find near the door. If you are a member of another Christian Church
and used to receiving Holy Communion we welcome you to share the sacrament
with us.
May God bless you as you worship
with us; may you be strengthened in your faith, and come to know the love
of God more fully.
