"Lifestyles: one person's lifestyle, another person's life" This is the title of an exciting conference taking place at Swanwick Conference Centre in Derbyshire, 21 - 23 March 2007. It is an annual consultation for those working on global issues, from all churches. This year the focus is on environmental issues, and the speakers include Peter Heslam, Sir John Houghton, Joe Kapolyo, Andrew Simms, and Elaine Storkey, so it promises to be a challenging event. It would be particularly good if you are looking for ways to link creation care with global issues.

When and how was St Mary’s Environmental Group set up?

St Mary’s Environmental Group was successfully formed after our church organised a conference called “A Day to Remember”, which was held on 19th December 2004. One of the workshops held was called, “Caring for God’s Earth”. Karl Letten, the previous Environmental Coordinator of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council led the workshop and gave a talk on environmental issues facing our planet today.

What is the Eco-congregation Award?

The eco-congregation award is independently assessed and is designed to affirm good practice in environmental stewardship and help churches witness to the importance of caring for God’s creation.

St Mary’s Church is currently applying for the eco-congregation award where we aim to provide information and a spiritual awareness of environmental issues to the community where practical steps can also be taken.
