Peter started learning
the piano aged 4, and progressed through to grade 8. Starting Organ
lessons aged 9, with Norman Wilson Organist and Choir Master at St
John's Boscombe, where Peter was head boy in the choir. Peter
continued his organ studies with lessons at Winchester Cathedral and
held posts as Organist at Westcliffe Baptist Church, Westbourne. St
Johns Surrey Road, Branksome, where he had a large choir that sung at
Coventry Cathedral amongst other venues. Peter was also a regular
recitalist in the Hampshire and Dorset area at this time.
He then moved to St
Swithuns Church, Bournemouth and finally succeeded Norman Wilson at St
Johns Boscombe for a short period, before moving to Wales where he was
Organist of All Saints Church Mumbles, recording several times for BBC
Wales.
Peter has been in
Hinckley since 1997 firstly at Hinckley URC and upon the
rebuilding of the Organ at St Mary's moved here in April of 2005.
Peter is
once again giving recitals both at St Mary's and further a field.
Since 2010 peter has
worked hard to increase choir numbers and they now sing at least twice a
month as well as at special services. In 2011 John Whittaker
appointed Peter as Director of Music, and Peter intends to work hard
to bring together and involve all the musical talents of the church.
Peter is the lead
Organist at St Mary's and plays the majority of Sunday Services and
Weddings.
In 2013 he has been
booked for recitals at Leicester Cathedral, Hinckley URC as part of
the Leicestershire organists association benevolent Fund concert and
at St Mary's. He will also combine in 2013 again with Simon Headley
Assistant organist at the Cathedral to lecture at Leicestershire
Organist Associations "reluctant organists day" for the 4th year in
a row. Peter is currently Secretary for the Midlands branch of the
RSCM. |
